Once a Player; Now a Coach

Coach Kyle "Biggie" Small and members of the Pleasantville Secondary School Team
“Sports” is recognized worldwide for its many benefits, such as, instilling discipline in individuals and developing teamwork.  Kyle “Biggie” Small knows the importance of sports and recognizes that it can play a key role in imparting positive values in youths in our society.  To this end, he has taken up the mantel of using football to transform youths.
Small has been a football coach for more than eight (8) years.  He coaches the National Under Sixteen (16) Boys team, Club San’do Under Sixteen (16) team and the Pleasantville Secondary School team.  Positive values of discipline, confidence and teamwork are imparted in coach Small’s charges.  It also develops pride in them.  These positive values transcend to other areas of each player’s life, such as, school/ work.

Yes, sports has many benefits and is fun but it also provide many avenues for careers/ business, such as, professional athletes, coaches, physiotherapists and club owners. Through his coaching Mr. Small is providing youths with hope of a better life and should be saluted for his efforts.

Groups both formal and informal are great ways to develop your natural leadership qualities.

Spotlight on Young Entrepreneur: Safiya Marcelle

After years of working as a manager in the food industry, she took a leap of faith and decided to pursue her dreams and do what she loves. Today, Safiya Marcelle is a practicing nail
technician with six (6) years experience under her belt and a blooming clientele. She specialize in acrylics, natural nails, gels (still mastering) manicures and pedicures.

With no plans of slowing down Ms. Marcelle plans to own and operate a spa in the near future, where she will continue to serve the public and hopefully teach.

My two cents: It all start with a plan, set goals for yourself , build finance, do your research and execute it.

    Life after Lupus

Most people don't set out to be role models, they just set out to be the best person they can be and in the process inspire others. One such person is Tayler Woodman a young lady that was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and due to blood circulation problems her lower right leg was amputated.
    Meet Tayler.

My two cents: To often we blame people and society for the wrongs in ours lives; yet, every day we see people living against odds. Everyone face obstacles, barriers and challenges in life the onus is on you the individual not to give up but to stand up and fight.

Remember, Anything Worth Having is Worth Fighting For - Unknown

    Self- Confidence

    Model: Sammie D
Societal norms  put a lot of pressure on us; the consumers of media, on what is right and what is wrong. Whether directly or indirectly its always wise to ask questions and think critically about what you consume. Media often sway our decisions, from what to wear, what to eat, what is proper and what is acceptable.

On that note, I had the pleasure of interviewing fellow class mate and plus size model Samantha "Sammie D" Davis and how she overcome the pressure the media idea of the "perfect body" and how she found her confidence through modeling.

My two cents: I believe once you find your confidence, the way you approach life will be different. Self confidence can not be bought or taught, you have to make a decision to do the best you possibly can. Once that decision is made nothing or no one can take it away from you. We all had times in our life where our confidence was tested, but it's all about staying strong. So find something that encourage your self confidence like; dance, poetry, music, sports or modeling.

Rock that Confidence until next time.
